Greetings from the new MARAC Contest Coordinator. I am honored to have the MARAC board appoint me to fill the position and I shall strive to do the job as well as my predecessors. I am hoping to be able to increase participation in the MARAC contests. I have a few ideas I want to share with you and get input on. . .
My first idea is to separate the SSB and CW weekends. I am sure a weekend in late summer or early fall has an opening for a SSB contest.
I will also be contacting several state QSO party mobiles. Hopefully they will be willing to head out, even if only for a few hours on one of the days. Increased mobile activity generally means increased fixed or portable operations.
I am soliciting responses from the MARAC contest participants, former participants, and future participants. Please keep in mind the intention is not to reinvent the wheel, it is to increase participation.
I am also soliciting your ideas on how to incorporate the DIGITAL model into the contest form for MARAC.
Remember - we are the mobile amateur radio awards club, so the emphasis should be on mobile operation.

MARAC Sponsored Contests
The MARAC QSO Parties, State QSO parties and other contests are a great way to collect counties for our awards. MARAC sponsors a yearly QSO party for both CW and SSB. New this year, both contests will be held on the same weekend. While each contest will be scored individually, you can still work both. Be the first to receive a 1st in your state certificate, for both the CW & SSB on the same day. Are you new to county hunting? These two contests are by far the best way to get started towards collecting the confirmations needed to obtain your USA-CA number. Working towards further MARAC sponsored awards? This is the one time of the year that you might find that rare county without waiting on a mobile to get there. There are several other QSO parties happening this weekend, why not reap the benefits and submit logs to all of them. Don’t procrastinate mark your calendar today.
